A Collection of German Recipes
Our family loves to get together to cook, so we have started a new tradition. My sister and her family, mother, and my family have a family night once a month. It began with a pizza-making night and has progressed to theme nights. This past Friday, we had German Family Night. Since Oktoberfest was coming to a close, we thought it would be the perfect theme. Here we share the German recipes we made.
What is Oktoberfest
This festival is actually held in the last part of September and ends on the first Sunday in October. Lasting two weeks, the festival commemorates the marriage of the Prince of Bavaria to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Originally, the festival included a horse race and a state fair. Over the years, it has become synonymous with large amounts of beer consumption. On average, 2 million gallons of beer are consumed during the two weeks.
Our Family Night

Each family member makes a different dish except our mother. She is exempt from cooking. We let her sit back and relax while we prepare the dishes. We all cook together in one kitchen.
After dinner, we play games or watch a movie.
The Menu
Our German menu was as follows:
Bacon and Gruyere Spaetzle – our favorite dish
Ham and Noodle with Egg Casserole
Bratwurst – Store-bought
German Spritzer – Traditionally made with apple juice, but we mixed it up. We had a selection of grape, apple, or strawberry lemonade. The grape juice was the favorite.
Pretzels with cheese – These were store-bought.
